Divinity Atlas
Human Design and the Nine Centers
Human Design lays the I Ching's sixty four hexagrams over nine energy centers derived from the chakras, building one composite chart from several older systems. A reading works from a chart's planetary positions to describe a type and a decision-making strategy, a synthesis recent in origin whatever the age of the systems it borrows from.
History
Human Design was created by Alan Robert Krakower, who took the name Ra Uru Hu, and dates itself precisely: Krakower described receiving the system's core material in Ibiza in January 1987 and began teaching it not long afterward. The system explicitly and openly synthesizes several older traditions rather than claiming an ancient origin of its own: the I Ching's sixty four hexagrams, the Kabbalistic Tree of Life's structure, the Hindu chakra system, reworked into nine energy centers, and Western astrology's planets are all layered into the one chart, so its component parts carry the histories those separate report items already describe while the specific combination is Krakower's own late twentieth century construction. Its own founding account describes the system as received rather than devised through ordinary study; this page names that claim as the tradition's own account of its origin, the same treatment other self-described revealed or channeled traditions receive elsewhere in this atlas, without independently verifying or debunking it.
The Five Types
- Manifestor, initiates action independently.
- Generator, responds and sustains, the most common type.
- Manifesting Generator, a hybrid, responds and then initiates.
- Projector, guides and directs others, works best when invited.
- Reflector, the rarest type, samples and reflects the environment.
The Nine Centers
Head, Ajna, Throat, G (Identity), Heart (Ego, Will), Sacral, Solar Plexus, Spleen and Root: nine centers built by reworking the traditional chakra system, each either defined or open in a given chart depending on which hexagram lines connect to it.
How A Reading Is Constructed
A reading works from a chart's planetary positions to activate hexagrams and gates across the nine centers, determining which centers are defined, and from that pattern derives one of the five types and the decision-making strategy the system holds that type should follow. A full personalized chart in Human Design conventionally layers a second calculation, roughly eighty eight days before birth, over the birth moment itself; this report item's birth-data reading gives the framework such a chart is built from.
