The Projector is one of five types in Human Design, the modern system taught since the early 1990s by Ra Uru Hu, defined by the absence of a defined Sacral center and, unlike the Manifestor, no direct motor connection to the Throat either, leaving it without the sustained energy the two Generator types and the Manifestor are said to have. Its strategy is to wait for an invitation before taking on major roles, particularly ones involving guidance or direction of others, and the teaching names success as its healthy signature and bitterness as the sign of a Projector acting without being invited. The teaching estimates Projectors at around a fifth of the population, the second most common type after the two Generator types combined. Where the other types are described as having consistent access to sustainable energy, the Projector is described as a type built to guide and focus that energy in others rather than to generate it.

The Type in the Human Design Model
The Projector is one of the five types of Human Design, the system's top-level classification of people by the configuration of their bodygraph. Human Design is a modern esoteric system, originated in 1987 by Ra Uru Hu (born Alan Robert Krakower, 1948-2011), who presented its content as received teaching rather than as an inherited tradition. It is roughly four decades old and is best read as a contemporary synthesis, not as ancient wisdom or established fact. Ra Uru Hu combined four older systems that had never before been joined: the I Ching supplies the sixty-four gates, the Hindu chakra model the nine centres, the Kabbalistic Tree of Life the connecting channels, and Western astrology the method of calculation.
To each type the system assigns a strategy, a signature said to accompany living in line with it, and a not-self theme said to signal living against it. For the Projector, the strategy is "To wait for the invitation," the signature is Success, and the not-self theme is Bitterness. These are prescriptive elements of a contemporary esoteric framework dating from 1987; they are described here as the system's own model and are not offered as medical, psychological or life advice, nor as established fact.
The Projector Type and the Question of Frequency
Human Design states that its five types are unevenly distributed across the population, and the Projector is usually placed in the middle of that distribution. The claim is more checkable than most in the system.
Why it is checkable
The type is calculated from a birth time by a fixed rule. Given a large enough set of birth times, the frequency of each type in that set can be computed exactly, with no interpretation involved at any step. Proportions quoted in the literature vary between sources, and this atlas does not repeat a figure it could not verify.
What can be said is that the distribution is a mathematical consequence of the calculation and of the distribution of birth times, and that it is therefore a fact rather than a doctrine. Any two people who compute it correctly from the same data will agree.
What is not checkable in the same way
The claim that people of this type function better under one approach than another is of a different kind. It is stated by the system and is not established by any independent published test.
Provenance
The typology is not inherited. Neither the I Ching, nor astrology, nor the chakra model, nor the Tree of Life sorts people into these categories. The five types were introduced by Ra Uru Hu in 1987, and the atlas records them as the system's own model rather than as ancient material or as established fact.
