Juxtaposition Cross of Listening (13/7)

The Juxtaposition Cross of Listening carries the same named pair as the Cross of Interaction, Gate 13 and Gate 7, with sun and earth exchanged. Human Design reads Gate 13, from Hexagram 13, Fellowship, as the listener, the one to whom others confide and who holds the past, now the more exposed gate, and Gate 7, from Hexagram 7, The Army, as the self cast in the role of leader, guiding toward a shared future. Juxtaposition Crosses are set apart from the Right Angle and Left Angle families, reserved for the four line one profile, and read as fixed almost past the point of alternative.

Its design half is Gate 43 and Gate 23, the same pair that names the channel of Structuring elsewhere in the mandala. Gate 43 sits in the Ajna and is read as a sudden inner knowing that arrives whole and is hard to explain. Gate 23 sits in the Throat and is read as the voice that turns that kind of insight into language other people can actually take in.

Putting listening ahead of leadership changes what this cross puts forward first, witness before guidance, while the same structural pairing of insight and expression sits beneath it regardless. The numbers are inherited from the I Ching; reading them as one cross belongs to the modern reading, not the classical one.

The Juxtaposition Cross of Listening is named here for Gate 13 and Gate 7, the listener exposed ahead of the self cast as leader. Its first article reads Gate 13 as the one to whom others confide and who holds the past, now the more exposed gate, and Gate 7 as the self cast in the role of leader, guiding toward a shared future. What it does not trace is where the four gates sit on the wheel itself, the Human Design mandala's division of its sixty four gates into four Quarters, and by that measure this cross draws one gate from each of the four.

Gate 13, the personality gate here, falls in the Quarter of Initiation, purpose fulfilled through mind. Gate 7, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding. Behind them, Gate 43 falls in the Quarter of Mutation, purpose fulfilled through transformation, and Gate 23 falls in the Quarter of Civilization, purpose fulfilled through form.

So the listening witness and the guiding leader the first article reads on this cross's surface answer to the arcs of mind and bonding, while the sudden knowing and the telling voice beneath them answer to the arcs of transformation and form, the same four arcs its own reversal, the Juxtaposition Cross of Interaction, also draws on however its two pairs are assigned to personality and design, and the same pair that underlies the Left Angle Cross of Masks in both orderings. Four gates, four different Quarters, no pair sharing an arc: this cross draws its whole reading from every corner of the wheel's own purpose rather than concentrated in one.
