Juxtaposition Cross of Mutation (3/50)

The Juxtaposition Cross of Mutation is named for Gate 3 and Gate 50. Human Design reads Gate 3, from Hexagram 3, Difficulty at the Beginning, as the pressure to bring order out of a genuinely new start, and Gate 50, from Hexagram 50, The Cauldron, as the instinctive sense of responsibility that guards a group and decides its rules. Gate 3 itself pairs elsewhere with Gate 60 in the channel of Mutation, which is where this cross takes its name. Juxtaposition Crosses stand apart from the other two families, tied only to the four line one profile, and are read as the most fixed direction the system names.

Its design half is Gate 41 and Gate 31. Gate 41 sits in the Root and is read as the pressure of feeling that opens a new cycle of experience; Human Design gives it a special structural role, holding that it begins the whole sixty four gate sequence. Gate 31 sits in the Throat and is read as leadership through influence, followed because it is recognised rather than imposed; it pairs with Gate 7 in the channel of the Alpha.

So the cross reads as a hard, ordering start, Gate 3, answering to guarded group values, Gate 50, while beneath it a cycle opening in feeling, Gate 41, answers to an elected voice, Gate 31. The hexagrams are ancient; grouping them into one incarnation cross is the modern system's own construction.

So the ordering pressure and the guarded group values the first article reads on this cross's surface answer to the arcs of mind and bonding, while the opening cycle of feeling and the recognised, elected voice beneath them answer to the arcs of transformation and form. The same pair, exchanged, is this cross's own reversal, the Juxtaposition Cross of Values, and, held instead in the Left Angle family, the Cross of Wishes, both orderings; the Right Angle family carries the identical pair too, as the Cross of Laws, both orderings. Four gates, four different Quarters, no pair sharing an arc: this cross draws its whole reading from every corner of the wheel's own purpose rather than concentrated in one.
