Left Angle Cross of Identification (9/16)

The Left Angle Cross of Identification is named for Gate 9 and Gate 16. Human Design reads Gate 9, from Hexagram 9, Small Taming, sitting in the Sacral centre, as the energy of focus, the capacity to attend to the small details a larger idea depends on; and Gate 16, from Hexagram 16, Enthusiasm, sitting in the Throat, as enthusiasm refined by repetition into real skill. It sits in the Left Angle family, and Human Design reads that group as outward facing, less a chosen plan than a role other people keep handing back.

Its design half is Gate 64 and Gate 63, both seated in the Head. Gate 64 is read as confusion, unresolved images working themselves slowly toward a clarity that arrives on its own schedule; it pairs with Gate 47 in the channel of Abstraction. Gate 63 is read as doubt, the pressure to question and look for the flaw in a pattern before accepting it; it pairs with Gate 4 in the channel of Logic.

So a chart carrying this cross focuses on detail and repeats toward skill on its surface, while beneath it an unresolved confusion presses against a doubting mind. The same four gates also underlie the Cross of Experimentation and the Cross of Focus, and this cross's own reversal is the Left Angle Cross of Identification. The numbers are inherited from the I Ching; reading them as one cross belongs to the modern reading, not the classical one.

Four gates, four different Quarters, no pair sharing an arc: this cross draws its whole reading from every corner of the wheel's own purpose rather than concentrated in one.
