Left Angle Cross of Migration (40/37)

The Left Angle Cross of Migration is named for Gate 40 and Gate 37. Human Design reads Gate 40, from Hexagram 40, Deliverance, as willpower to work, balanced against a real need for solitude, and Gate 37, from Hexagram 37, The Family, as the warmth and the bargain that holds a household together. It belongs to the Left Angle family, read as transpersonal, a direction practitioners describe as answering less to personal choice than to what circumstance hands the individual, which is where the cross's name of migration is read from.

Its design half is Gate 35 and Gate 5. Gate 35 sits in the Throat and is read as a hunger for progress and for the feeling only a new experience can supply; elsewhere it pairs with Gate 36 in the channel of Transitoriness. Gate 5 sits in the Sacral centre and is read as a fixed inner rhythm governing eating, sleeping and work; it pairs with Gate 15 in the channel of Rhythm.

So a chart carrying this cross balances willpower and solitude against a household bargain on its exposed surface, while beneath it a restless hunger for progress answers to a fixed bodily rhythm, an unsettled design beneath a settled name. The hexagrams are ancient; grouping them into one transpersonal cross is the modern system's own construction, dated to 1987.

Four gates, four different Quarters, no pair sharing an arc: this cross draws its whole reading from every corner of the wheel's own purpose rather than concentrated in one.
