Left Angle Cross of the Plane (36/6)

The Left Angle Cross of the Plane is named for Gate 36 and Gate 6, both seated in the Solar Plexus. Human Design reads Gate 36, from Hexagram 36, Darkening of the Light, as emotional crisis, the turbulence a person passes through when an experience is genuinely new to them; and Gate 6, from Hexagram 6, Conflict, as the friction that both guards and opens intimate and sexual contact. It sits in the Left Angle family, and Human Design reads that group as outward facing, less a chosen plan than a role other people keep handing back.

Its design half is Gate 10 and Gate 15, both seated in the G, or Identity, centre. Gate 10 is read as love of self, behaviour that stays true to one's own nature rather than to expectation, and is one of the four Integration gates. Gate 15 is read as a love of humanity broad enough to embrace extremes, together with a personal rhythm that refuses to settle into any regular pattern.

So a chart carrying this cross meets crisis with guarded intimacy on a shared emotional surface, while beneath it a single Identity centre houses both a fidelity to one's own nature and a tolerance for every extreme. The same four gates also underlie the Juxtaposition Cross of Crisis, and mirror again as the Left Angle Cross of the Plane reversed. Both hexagrams are old texts; pairing them this way as a life direction dates from the system's founding in 1987.

The Left Angle Cross of the Plane is named for Gate 36 and Gate 6, and its first article places both in the Solar Plexus alongside their design counterparts, Gate 10 and Gate 15, seated in the Identity center. What that account leaves untraced is where the four gates sit on the wheel itself, the Human Design mandala's division of its sixty four gates into four Quarters, and by that measure this cross draws one gate from each of the four rather than clustering in one or two.

Gate 36, the personality gate, falls in the Quarter of Initiation, the arc whose purpose is fulfilled through mind. Gate 6, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding. Behind them, Gate 10 falls in the Quarter of Mutation, purpose fulfilled through transformation, and Gate 15 falls in the Quarter of Civilization, purpose fulfilled through form.

So the emotional crisis and guarded intimacy the first article reads on the surface of this cross answer to the arcs of mind and bonding, while beneath them the self-regard and tolerance of its design half answer to the arcs of transformation and form. Four gates, one center each in Solar Plexus and Identity, four different Quarters, with no pair sharing an arc: the crisis this cross carries is assembled from every quarter of the wheel's own purpose, not from one corner of it.
