Right Angle Cross of Explanation is a Right Angle Incarnation Cross built on Gate 23 and Gate 43. Gate 23, Individual Assimilation (Hexagram 23, Splitting Apart), sits in the Throat and is read as the voice that turns a strange individual insight into shared language; Gate 43, Individual Insight (Hexagram 43, Breakthrough), sits in the Ajna and is read as sudden inner knowing that arrives whole and resists easy explanation. It sits in the Right Angle family, the most populous of the three, and Human Design reads that family as steered chiefly by personal choice. Both hexagrams are old texts; pairing them this way as a life direction dates from the system's founding in 1987.

Explanation, the Insight Channel Read From Its Other End, Given a Personal Cross

The Right Angle Cross of Explanation carries the same channel as the earlier Cross of Explanation with sun and earth exchanged, Gate 23 and Gate 43, the two ends of Structuring. Human Design reads Gate 23, from Hexagram 23, Splitting Apart, sitting in the Throat, as the voice that turns a strange individual insight into shared language, now the more exposed gate; and Gate 43, from Hexagram 43, Breakthrough, sitting in the Ajna, as the sudden inner knowing behind it. It sits in the Right Angle family, the most populous of the three, and Human Design reads that family as steered chiefly by personal choice.

Its design half is Gate 49 and Gate 4, also exchanged. Gate 49 sits in the Solar Plexus and is read as principle, the sense of what is acceptable that decides whether an arrangement continues; it pairs with Gate 19 in the channel of Synthesis. Gate 4 sits in the Ajna and is read as the mental habit of offering answers and hypotheses to questions still open; it pairs with Gate 63 in the channel of Logic.

Putting the telling ahead of the knowing changes what this cross puts forward first, while the same sense of what is acceptable and habit of hypothesis sit beneath it regardless of order. The same channel, unreversed, is also another Cross of Explanation, and the same two gate pairs with roles exchanged form a third arrangement of the same set. Both hexagrams are old texts; pairing them this way as a life direction dates from the system's founding in 1987.

Explanation, the Telling Ahead and the Same Four Quarters

This article records tradition as it has been passed down and reported. Its sources are not yet part of the atlas's verified catalogue.

The Right Angle Cross of Explanation carries the same channel as the earlier Cross of Explanation with sun and earth exchanged, Gate 23 and Gate 43, the telling exposed ahead of the insight itself. Its first article reads Gate 23 as the voice that turns a strange individual insight into shared language, and Gate 43 as the sudden inner knowing behind it. What it does not trace is where the four gates sit on the wheel itself, the Human Design mandala's division of its sixty four gates into four Quarters, and by that measure this ordering draws one gate from each of the four.

Gate 23, the personality gate here, falls in the Quarter of Civilization, purpose fulfilled through form. Gate 43, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Mutation, purpose fulfilled through transformation. Behind them, Gate 49 falls in the Quarter of Initiation, purpose fulfilled through mind, and Gate 4 falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding.

So the telling and the sealed insight beneath it the first article reads on this ordering's surface answer to the arcs of form and transformation, while the judgment of what is acceptable and the offered answer beneath them answer to the arcs of mind and bonding, the same four arcs the rest of the Explanation family draws on however its two pairs are assigned and ordered. Reversing which gate carries the Sun changes what this variant puts forward, but not which Quarters supply its four gates.
