Right Angle Cross of Maya (62/61)

The Right Angle Cross of Maya is named for Gate 62 and Gate 61. Human Design reads Gate 62, from Hexagram 62, Small Preponderance, sitting in the Throat, as detail, the organising of facts and particulars into an order that can be spoken; and Gate 61, from Hexagram 61, Inner Truth, sitting in the Head, as the pressure to know the mystery behind existence, which the system holds cannot be satisfied by information. It belongs to the Right Angle family, the largest of the system's three, read as a personal destiny that answers mainly to the individual's own choices.

Its design half is Gate 42 and Gate 32. Gate 42 sits in the Sacral centre and is read as the energy to carry a process through to its natural end; it pairs with Gate 53 in the channel of Maturation. Gate 32 sits in the Spleen and is read as the instinct for what will last, and caution about change for its own sake; it pairs with Gate 54 in the channel of Transformation.

So a chart carrying this cross names facts while pressing after an unanswerable mystery on its surface, while beneath it an energy to finish answers to a caution about lasting. The name Maya, the Sanskrit word for illusion, marks the system's own reading that what the mind can name is not the whole of what is real. The same two gate pairs also form the cross's other three role arrangements. The hexagrams are ancient; grouping four of them into one personal cross is the modern system's own construction, dated to 1987.

Behind them, Gate 42 falls in the Quarter of Initiation, purpose fulfilled through mind, and Gate 32 falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding.

So the naming of facts and the pressing after mystery the first article reads on this ordering's surface answer to the arcs of form and transformation, while the drive to finish and the caution about lasting beneath them answer to the arcs of mind and bonding, the same four arcs the rest of the Maya family draws on however its two pairs are assigned to personality and design. With this fourth arrangement in place, every role rotation of Maya's two gate pairs shares the same wheel wide spread, one gate from each Quarter regardless of order.
