Konko-cho, in Asakuchi, Okayama Prefecture, is Konkokyo's headquarters district, built up around the site of the founder Kawate Bunjiro's own home and ministry in what was then Otani village, Bitchu Province. It remains the religion's administrative and spiritual center under the successive generations of the Konko family who have led it since his death.

The site's standing as a formal headquarters dates specifically to 1900, when the Meiji government recognised Konkokyo as one of thirteen officially sanctioned Sect Shinto bodies. That state recognition gave the founder's home village an administrative status distinct from the informal farm setting in which Kawate Bunjiro had first begun receiving visitors decades earlier. 1
History
Historical NoteSourced to the subject's own account
The compound has grown up around Konko Daijin, the sacred hall enshrining Tenchi Kane no Kami, and a pilgrim who travels there still receives toritsugi in person from the acting Konko Sama, the hereditary head descended from Kawate Bunjiro, continuing without interruption the same mediating role Bunjiro began at that address when he devoted himself to it full time in 1859. 1
