Chhaupadi Pratha Unmulan Nirdeshika, 2064 (Guidelines on Eliminating the Chhaupadi Practice)

The Chhaupadi Pratha Unmulan Nirdeshika, the Government of Nepal's own guidelines directing the elimination of the chhaupadi menstrual seclusion practice, issued by the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare, is the state's own policy instrument addressing a practice it sought to end. As the government's own text, it is the direct and authoritative source for what Nepal's state policy on the practice actually stated and when. Its limit is that it is a policy directive rather than an ethnographic or historical account of the practice itself, its religious basis or how communities actually responded to the directive on the ground, which a dedicated ethnographic source addresses separately.
