Embryological development of human palmar, plantar, and digital flexion creases, Sumiko Kimura and Takatoshi Kitagawa's 1986 paper in The Anatomical Record, examined 160 human fetuses between six and twenty weeks and established that flexion creases form independently of the hand's or foot's own movement rather than being worn in by use. Its strength is that it is a peer reviewed developmental anatomy study with a documented sample and a stable digital identifier.
