Hesiod's Theogony is an archaic Greek hexameter poem, conventionally dated to around 700 BCE though no precise year can be established, setting out the genealogy of the Greek gods from the earliest cosmic beings onward. As a primary ancient text it sits at this atlas's top tier, meaning it authoritatively records what this foundational account of Greek divine genealogy actually says, not that the events it narrates occurred. Use it to establish the traditional genealogical relationships among Greek deities as this poem states them. Other Greek sources sometimes give different genealogies, and a claim about a variant tradition needs its own separate citation rather than assuming Hesiod's account is the only one.
