Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs, in the Reiwa 7 edition of its annual Religious Yearbook published in 2025, counted 1,121,541 Tenrikyo followers in Japan, down from a historical high of 2,298,420 recorded in 1974. The yearbook is the Japanese government's own annual registry of religious corporations and their reported membership.
