Awareness Centers gathers three of the nine centers in the bodygraph of Human Design, the system Ra Uru Hu began teaching in the early 1990s, the three classed as sources of awareness rather than pressure or motor drive: the Ajna, the Solar Plexus and the Spleen.
The Ajna, seat of mental certainty, concepts and opinions, receives pressure from the Head above it and, when defined, passes fixed ways of thinking down to the Throat for expression; it shares its name and rough position with the ajna, or third eye, chakra, but Human Design reframes that older seat of intuition as conceptual, thought based awareness, distinct from the bodily awareness assigned instead to the Spleen.
The Solar Plexus governs mood, feeling and what the teaching calls emotional authority, in which clarity about a decision is said to arrive only after a wave of feeling has run its course rather than in the moment asked; roughly half of people are said to have it defined, making emotional authority one of the system's most common decision styles. It shares its name and emotional association with the solar plexus, or manipura, chakra, though Human Design casts that theme as a wave to be ridden out over time.
The Spleen governs instinctive, body based awareness, the immune system, physical well-being and the sense of what supports survival, delivering its signal, the teaching holds, in a single instant with no repeat warning. Unlike the other eight centers, it has no equivalent among the older seven chakras, since the spleen is an organ rather than a chakra point, the one center drawn from entirely outside that older system; its quiet signal is easily overridden by the Solar Plexus's louder, wave based one when both are defined.
