Ocaks and the Lineages That Produce a Dede

Alevi religious authority runs through ocaks, hereditary lineages holding a form of holy descent from which the dedes who lead the cem are drawn, each ocak recognised by a defined community of talips, followers, attached to it by family and locality rather than by individual choice of teacher.
