Michelle Buchanan

Michelle Buchanan, born Michelle Tracey Wilson on March 28, 1969, is a Western Pythagorean numerologist based in Auckland, New Zealand, who has practiced and taught numerology for more than three decades. She became the numerology and spiritual counselor for New Zealand's Woman's Day magazine in 2009 and has served as the resident numerologist on Television New Zealand's long running Good Morning program since 2010, bringing numerology to a mainstream daytime television audience rather than a specialist spiritual one.

In 2012 she launched a numerology program, Discover Your Destiny, on Hay House Radio, and in January 2013 signed an international publishing contract with Hay House for her first book, The Numerology Guidebook, released alongside a companion deck, Numerology Guidance Cards, in December of that year. A second book, Hay House Basics: Numerology, followed in 2015 with an accompanying online course. She has also written as a contributing columnist for the wellness site MindBodyGreen.

Numerology itself, the practice of assigning meaning to numbers derived from names and birth dates, has no basis in mathematics or science beyond the arithmetic used to calculate the numbers, and Buchanan presents it consistently as a self development and reflection tool delivered through mainstream New Zealand media rather than as an empirically demonstrated system. Outside her numerology work she is also a singer and songwriter and the mother of two, and continues to live in Auckland.

Michelle Buchanan's public identity centers on numerology and her decade on New Zealand television, but her own biography names a second credential alongside it: she is a Certified Law of Attraction Practitioner, trained in a distinct New Age framework built around the idea that focused thought and belief shape a person's circumstances, a practice popularized broadly through its own books and films and separate from the number based system she teaches on Good Morning and through her Hay House books.

That credential, earned in 2008, followed an entirely separate first career her Hay House biography does not mention. For twenty three years Buchanan worked in corporate recruitment, holding positions at the record label EMI Music, the car rental company Avis and the travel firm Thomas Cook, before leaving that career behind in 2003 to practice numerology full time.

The change traces to a numerology reading she received at age twenty one, which she has called transformative, years before she acted on it. In that same period she also volunteered as a counsellor for Youthline, a New Zealand crisis support service for young people, work distinct from both the recruitment career she still held and the numerology practice she had not yet taken up.

Her own recorded place of activity is given as Tauranga, New Zealand, a detail distinct from the Auckland television studio where her Good Morning segments are taped and her Woman's Day column is based.
